The Formula Student event at Silverstone is this weekend, so Monday was our last day testing the car out as we’re going up on Wednesday. The plan was to do an endurance test, unfortunately we only got to half way, more on that later…

My team mate for the endurance race drove for the first 11km without fail. The car was running great and reliably.

Let me tell you, it was flipping hot out there.

We then stopped the car for the driver change and a quick check over and we noticed a little problem. The rear disk had cracked quite badly. Sucks, I was looking forward to driving the car on track for a while, never mind. What we think is that the spool drum expanded as it heated up and forced the disk to crack.

There was another University there testing out their car from Warwick.
It was built very nicely and it looked really easy to work on. Lacked power slightly but it was lighter than ours.

grrrr.

A new disk is being manufactured with a larger internal diameter and it’s made out mild steel instead of cast steel.
